⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀When he turned 16 his parents churned him into the real world to help with their economic woes. He picked up a job as a grocery boy, bagging and carrying groceries to people's cars. That's when he first laid eyes upon a girl his age named Hattie Mae Pierre. He knew their love at first sight was not going to be an easy feat. Hailing from a small town in Mississippi in the 1950s, the idea of an interracial couple was unheard of let alone socially acceptable. Hattie's family was very different from his own besides skin color, Hattie's mother Starline Pierre was a well-known identity among the Haitians practicing Hoodoo in the Mississippi Valley.

Despite his father's threats to permanently separate the two and warning Harvey of Starline, the young boy continued to sneak and pursue Hattie Mae. Until one night his father stalked Harvey to work, noticing the boy taking a detouring route. When his father saw who he was meeting up with, in a drunken rage shot and murdered Harvey's first true love.

There was no empathy, tears, or remorse as his father, James dragged him from the woods. There was no real justice for Hattie. Which left Starline to devise her version of the truth for closure. Discovering that Hattie was with child, left Starline to believe Harvey murdered her daughter when he found out about the unplanned pregnancy. Starline could remember telling Hattie, "Like father like son. People don't change. You best believe that, honey." Hattie fought to prove love was color blind...and she died trying to.

Starline wanted someone to pay for her grievances. All the woman could think about was if Harvey had left her daughter alone, she would still be alive. When she began to see Harvey a few years later with another girl, she wanted him to know what it felt like to lose someone he loved...over and over again. To never know the ending to such a pain. That is when she placed the curse upon Harvey. Harvey was to stay forever young, while his lovers would age or pass away.

At the age of nineteen, he was cursed. He would not become aware of it until he was in a drinking and driving accident after a party he went to with some high school friends. His girlfriend Cici Turner would perish in the accident. He would walk away with life-threatening wounds that healed within hours. It astounded doctors to the point his family began to offer their son up to medical studies for money, before becoming a resident at Brair Ridge Clinic. But for how long?...
